The van Hiele Levels of Geometric Thought:
|
Characteristics of the van Hiele Levels:
- In order for students to advance throughout the levels, they must have geometric experiences.
- Age dependence is not a factor in the levels.
- Objects of thoughts at one level are influences by the products of thought in the level before it.
- Students are not able to understand the concept being developed if instruction or language is at a higher level than the students.
Spatial Sense:
- Spatial Sense is the perception on has about shapes and the relationships between shapes. It is also considered a core areas of mathematical study.
- Spatial Sense includes being comfortable with descriptions of geometric objects, the ability to mentally see objects and the spatial relationships, and being able to appreciate geometric shapes in architecture, art, and nature.
