Developing the understanding of and application of proportional relationships is a standard focus in the 7th grade; however, reasoning proportionally begins to develop when a student is learning one-to-one correspondence, place value, fraction concepts and multiplication reasoning in their early education years.

Children's literature can help provide teachers with real contexts to base problems off of. It is important that students see patterns in the world around them. Children's literature essentially allows to teachers to incorporate algebraic thinking across curriculum. |
